BIOGRAPHY

Visual artist Tiko Kerr spent his developmental years in Alberta, Canada and he received his BSc in Biology from The University of Calgary.

However, drawing and painting were constant throughout his young life. He decided to recalibrate his career path from the study of medicine to the study of art after his post-secondary education and he became firmly committed to developing his artistic voice through working hard as an autodidact.

Soon after graduation, Kerr moved overseas setting in Bali and eventually in Sydney, Australia where he began his thirty-five year long exhibition history of his paintings. In the mid 1980’s Kerr returned to Canada to establish his new home in Vancouver where he presently lives and works.

Kerr has established a respected career for himself in his community and in commercial and public galleries throughout North America. In addition to drawing and painting, his explorations include collage, murals, assemblage and printmaking as well as performance and set design. Kerr is prolific in his practice and he continually challenges himself which has resulted in an oeuvre that is constantly evolving. He is also very passionate about teaching and lecturing in addition to having a strong commitment to social activism on issues that relate to health, children’s education, housing and First Nations.
